Black California

Impressive debut single...

ROCK

Review By: Dennis Jarman

Welcome back Black California! Originally formed in 2013 by lead guitarist Mik Crone. Around this time he was asked to join The Sourheads, leaving Black California on hiatus. Fast forward to a reunion some years later between Mik and vocalist Bob Wilder, restarting Black California with Craig Sowerby on bass and Andy Ingham on drums.

The band are progressing forward with a number of singles and videos, starting with their very impressive, debut single, 'Preachers, Schemes and Fools'. It opens up with a razor sharp main riff that's a full on attention grabber, heading off into heavier grooves. Wrist snapping snare drum work bite at your ankles and when the boisterous choruses kick in, nirvana is reached with ease by a gritty, but still melodic lead vocal, adding a touch of menace to this already three thrilling minutes of headbanging inducing hard rock, ending on a fretboard fury guitar solo! Job done, and I look forward to reviewing their next single.
