Divine Martyr, yet another band that has unfortunately slipped passed my radar over the years have just released a stunning new single called 'Absolution', but they have no sins to be punished for when they can release music like this! They class themselves as "Symphonic + power metal, smooth, soaring vocals, with added guttural, aggressive drums and guitars."

'Absolution' is my first review for them and what a way to start with this eight minute long opus.It took quite a few repeat plays to get my head around this musical maelstrom, but it's a very enthralling listen.

A haunting, calm before the storm intro sees it free its shackles with a full on, drum driven slice of power metal par excellence, as a spotlight stealing, heart melting lead vocal, soars skywards in the luscious choruses. Keyboards add soothing swathes that flow around the metal mayhem whipped up by a band on top of their game.

When they reach the five minute mark, it accelerates into headbanging inducing power, muscling up to big, fat, doom laden riffs, taking a slight breath until all Hell breaks loose for a final minute of fretboard burning wizardry to keep the air guitarists happy out there!

 

Divine Martyr came to be in 2016, releasing their debut single 'Martyrs Hymn', that December. Summer of 2017 saw them releasing their 'Trials EP'. More prolific writing in 2021 saw them release 'Beyond','More Than What You Are', 'Shatter The Doubt', 'How Do You Know?' and 'Not Standing Alone'. Also that year vocalist/cellist Olivia Guetle joined and the 'Truth' single was her writing debut with the band, released in December 2023.
