Hey to all of you alt-heads out there. Hope this review finds you well. Today we have a band brought to us by our Heads Up DJ Jaspa. Quite a gem these guys so lets not waste any time and get stuck right in…
Punched Through was formed in 2023 when long-term friends Nick Hemingway (Drums, Vocals) & Adz Redpath (Guitar) decided it was time to make some heavy music together. Adz introduced Ayrton Gampfer (Bass) shortly afterward as the perfect addition to the group.

As Nick lives in Whitehall, Montana (USA), Adz, Coventry (UK) & Ayrton, Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) the album was written & recorded using Avid Cloud Collaboration in Pro Tools in their respective studios.
This technology allowed the band the creative freedom to write & record whenever suited to their hectic schedules safe in the knowledge that the rock-solid Pro Tools infrastructure would never let them down or hinder their workflow.

Adz first met Nick (originally the drummer in the Brit Mathcore Duo ISOR) back in 2011 when he produced the debut album for his band Darksite in the legendary Philia Studios, Henley-On-Thames. They have been firm friends ever since.

Live shows will unfortunately be limited to the USA to start with as it’s logistically simpler but there are plans for European shows as time goes on.

In relation to this piece, we have been working with Adam Redpath quite closely and Heads Up North Manchester would like to thank him and the rest of the band for giving us this opportunity.

So, the band released their debut album entitled Cause & Effect back in November 2023 and on first playthrough I instantly got the impression that these guys live for their music. Comprising of fifteen tracks, the album gives off a true display of talent from all members of the band.

The first track entitled ‘Prevail’ packs a punch with its harsh beats and fierce riffs. I particularly enjoy how even though Punched Through are a heavy Metal band that use screaming lyrical techniques combined with sheer ferocity, you can distinctively hear the lyrics. This is not something that many new age bands take into account and the feature definitely makes listening more enjoyable for the audience. In my opinion anyway lol!

Now, if you’re looking for a track to bop about and head bang to, I suggest track nine, ‘Protect’. At two minutes and twenty seconds in length, this piece for me really stood out as varying vocal techniques are used as well as a steady and catchy drum beats, you can really get into this particular track. The change in tempos twenty-four seconds in really gives the track body and individuality. The slightly operatic tones and twists in the lyrics add the flourish needed when audiences are looking for a new band to get into. Originality is key and Punched Through seem to have got the down to a ‘T’.

Each track of the album launches itself into a new dimension of the metal music scene, hammering with intensity full pelt at its listeners ears. This album is certainly not one to be missed by those who crave a fresh taste of talent. Amazing album guys! Heads Up North can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
