Le Chaos...
Review by: Dennis Jarman

HEAVY METAL

Bonjour! Comment allez vous aujourd hui? Well, that's my basic French knowledge done, so it's apt that my album review of Le Chaos by French heavy metal band Spirit has lyrics delivered in French by lead singer Bill Kendama. Formed in 1996 in the North of France (Hauts De France/Pas De Calais). It's a concept album, portraying the horrors of World War I, made even more compelling by the French lyrics.

The album opens with 'En Marche Vers', a brief instrumental of a marching into war vibe.

'Le Chaos' is power metal overload with added thrash to send it over the trenches, powered along by a commanding lead vocal from Bill.

Drums of doom come from 'L'effort Du Guerre', that pounds alongside another vocal masterclass and a twin guitar outro.

'Le Brasier' rocks hard and heavy to up the metal ante, as full on choruses are bellowed out with aplomb.
'Les Force De L'ombre' adds to the battle with another drum onslaught and fretboard burning solos.

An overwhelming main riff to 'Forme A Tuer' is a chest beating call to arms battle bruiser, pinned down by seismic drum patterns.

Bill hits stratospheric height power on the doomy 'Survivant', a chilling song that takes no prisoners.

'Souterrain Mortel' could send any crowd into a circle pit frenzy from its proto thrash prowess.

The claustrophobic 'Rester Cache' is bleak to say the least due to its dense cloak of suffering.

The heaviest and most breathtaking song comes from 'Amour Et Deshonneur', another apocalyptic drum assault that sends it to levels that seemed almost unreachable.

This shuddering album closes on 'Les Marches Du Temple', as overwhelming time changes rage with glee, following a speed metal intro and a high pitched vocal outro.
