Originally formed in 2015 by Mr Steve Saunders, Spreading the Disease are a five-piece metal band from the UK. They have to date released three albums and are signed to Copperline Music Nashville.

Now, today we here at Heads Up North wanted to highlight the bands latest single release entitled ‘Addicted. Let’s get stuck in…

For me this track instantly got my musical senses tingling with excitement. Not having heard and of the bands material before I can honestly say ‘Addicted’ was the perfect first glimpse at the sheer talents hidden within Spreading the Disease’ anatomy.

In four minutes and seven seconds the audience are drawn into a whirlwind of explosive and phenomenal musical bliss comprising of aggressive but steadily vigilant drum beats alongside energetic and alluring guitar riffs.

What really struck me as a brave but solid and distinctive choice by the band is the sensitive subject matter. Although often seen as a topic that most would want to avoid discussing, addiction as a very common issues in most societies all over the world. Many people will face troubles surrounding addiction in their lifetime. Spreading the Disease unveil addiction in a way that allows people to understand without causing offence. Key elements in the lyrics emphasise aspects that those struggling with this demon face.

The phrases ‘fight the urge’ and ‘save your soul’ give courage and a sense of support and can be seen as a mantra to those listening.

The combination of various vocal styles and metal infused song structures has easily won me over. I particularly enjoyed the atmospheric build up at two minutes and forty-nine seconds in where whispering and extravagant guitar riffs come together to enforce the tracks message that it is possible to get through addiction with the right support and willpower. Anyone can do it.

As a whole this track is perfect for moshing or bopping along to and would be a great addiction to any alternative DJ set. It’s definitely made its way to a permanent place on my playlist that’s for sure! We will definitely be following the band on their future ventures.

Thankyou so much for giving Heads Up North Manchester the opportunity to review this track. 😊
