The Lottery Winners have solidified themselves as one of the hardest-working bands in the music scene today, not just from their frequent tours but from the seemingly endless energy they bring to every performance. Their set at the Newton Music Festival was a perfect showcase of this dedication: polished, confident, and brimming with an infectious sense of fun.

From the moment they opened with "Worry," followed closely by "The Meaning of Life," it was clear that the band was here to deliver. The hooks were tight, the lyrics resonated, and the harmonies were on point. Thom, Rob, Kate, and Joe commanded the stage with the kind of easy swagger that only comes from a group completely at ease with their craft. Thom, in particular, was the effervescent showman, effortlessly lifting the crowd’s energy with his engaging presence.

The set wasn't just about high-energy tunes, though. When Thom introduced "Letter to Myself," a collaboration with Frank Turner, he touched on sensitive topics like bullying and mental health with a grace that kept the crowd engaged and uplifted. The song itself was a poignant and beautiful moment, a testament to the band’s ability to tackle serious issues while still maintaining the overall buoyant atmosphere of their performance.

It's incredible to think that not long ago, these musicians were honing their craft on the pub circuit, playing to small but appreciative crowds. Now, their hard work is paying off in spades, with each gig attracting more and more loyal fans of all ages and musical tastes.

The set raced through favorites like "Much Better," "You're Not Alone"—a song with a beautiful message of hope and a celebration of diversity—and "Start Again." Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and their time on stage concluded all too soon with a fiery performance of "Burning House." The crowd, clearly unwilling to let them go, even managed to start a rare mosh pit, who started that, I wonder.

In the end, the only downside to their set was its brevity, a common frustration with festival time constraints. But that just leaves the audience hungry for more, and The Lottery Winners are sure to be back on a stage near you soon. If you get the chance to see them live, don’t miss it—this is a must-see band.
